Apple and Walnut Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Who does not love a beautiful, cheese oozing grilled sandwich. Sometimes, we want to eat a healthier version of the hot and gooey cheese sandwich and other times we are bored eating the same thing and crave for something different. Here I have come up with a grilled sandwich that is both healthier and different than the original kind. When I eat this apple and walnut filled sandwich I don't feel as guilty as when I eat the plain one.
One of my favorite snacks is half an apple, a few walnuts and a piece of cheese. Personally, I prefer sharp cheddar with apple. You can use any cheese you like in this recipe. I also think walnuts match the apple perfectly but you can try using other nuts. I used sourdough here but you can use plain bread too. I am using shredded cheese. You can use cheese slices if you prefer that. Use as much cheese as you like. There is no exact measurement for cheese.
Since this is a short and quick recipe let us jump into it right away.
Ingredients:
- Bread 2 slices(I used sourdough)
- Softened cream cheese 1 tbsp
- Chopped walnuts 1 tbsp
- Black pepper powder and salt to taste
- Slices of apple (I used red delicious)
- Shredded sharp cheddar, as desired
- Butter to spread on the sandwich
- Mix the cream cheese, walnut pieces, salt and pepper together.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture on one slice of bread.
- Arrange apple slices over the cream cheese spread.
- Layer shredded cheese over the apple slices.
- Place the second slice over the cheddar cheese.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on the top slice and grill it on a pre heated panini press. Alternatively, place the sandwich on a skillet over the stove and grill the sandwich on medium heat.
- Make sure the buttered side goes on to the hot surface.
- Flip the sandwich when the bottom is browned. Before you flip the sandwich butter the top side.
- Grill for a few minutes until both the sides are golden brown and the cheese has melted.
