Who doesn't like French Toast. Whether it is a plain slice of bread dipped in a egg batter or stuffed bread in a creamy egg batter it has its very own fans. The beauty of French toast is you can have it for breakfast as well as a dessert. There are multiple variations of this recipe.
In India, we even have a spicy French toast. There, French toast is popularly known as Bombay toast. I have no idea how this name came to be.
Today our French toast recipe has a very lip-smacking stuffing. It is the Indian dessert Kalakand.
Kalakand, a milk based sweet is loved by all Indians. It is a dessert in itself. It is sweet and milky with a hint of Cardamom and sometimes Saffron. Traditionally, milk is heated until it is reduced to a solid mass before sugar and flavorings are added. Now a days people have come up with a quick method. Equal amounts of Ricotta cheese and Condensed milk are mixed well and microwaved until all the liquid has evaporated leaving a solid mass. That is Kalakand.
I have used plain white bread in this recipe since Kalakand is very sweet and heavy. You can use Brioche or something similar. Likewise, you can substitute heavy cream for the milk.

| Add sugar and milk to egg. Mix well. |

| Place strawberry slices in the middle of the bread. |

| Roll the stuffed slice of bread carefully. |

| Dip the rolled bread slice in egg and place on a hot and greaesed pan. |
| Fry the bread roll on all sides until golden. |
Ingredients:
- 2 to 3 slices of Bread, edges trimmed
- Egg 1, well beaten
- Kalakand 1/2 cup
- Sugar 1tsp
- Milk 1 tbsp
- Few Strawberries, sliced
- Butter to fry the French Toast
Add the milk and sugar to the egg. Mix well until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Set the egg batter aside.
Lay a slice of bread on a plate or cutting board and flatten it slightly with your fingers.
Spread some of the Kalakand on the slice.
Place a few slices of Strawberries on the middle of the bread slice. Roll the bread making sure not to crack it.
Heat a skillet on medium heat and grease it with some butter. Dip the rolled bread slice in the egg batter. Place it in the hot pan. Fry on all sides until browned and golden.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
